Intelligent Extraterrestrial Life
God, Life Intelligence and the Universe by Terence J. Kelly, The task given to the authors of these essays-three scholars from three different continents-was to examine the phenomenon of intelligence. We understand both human and animal intelligence. Extraterrestrial intelligence and artificial intelligence are now serious topics for debate and discussion. The possibilities of extraterrestrial intelligence and yet-to-be-developed forms of artificial intelligence pose questions about how intelligent animals are and what the implications are for our concept of God and the salvific work of Christ. God, Life, Intelligence and the Universe is the first in the ATF's new Science and Theology Series.
Here Be Dragons: The Scientific Quest for Extraterrestrial Life by David W. Koerner, X The discovery of life on other planets would be perhaps the most momentous revelation in human history, more disorienting and more profound than either the Copernican or Darwinian revolutions which knocked the earth from the center of the universe and humankind from its position of lofty self-regard. In Here Be Dragons, astronomer David Koerner and neurobiologist Simon LeVay offer a scientifically compelling and colorful account of the search for life beyond Earth. The authors survey the work of biologists, cosmologists, computer theorists, NASA engineers, SETI researchers, roboticists, UFO enthusiasts and debunkers as they attempt to answer the greatest remaining question facing humankind: Are we alone? From their "safe haven of skepticism" the authors venture into the "rough seas of speculation", where theory and evidence run the gamut from hard science to hocus pocus. Arguing that the universe is spectacularly suited for the evolution of living creatures, Koerner and LeVay give us ringside seats at the great debates of Big Science. A faceoff between paleontologists Steven Jay Gourd and Simon Conway Morris on what really happens in evolution, the acrimonious UFO controversy, and the debate over intelligence versus artificial intelligence shed new light on the wildly divergent claims about the universe and life's place in it. The authors argue that while no direct evidence of extraterrestrial life yet exists, habitats and chemical building blocks for life abound in the universe. A wealth of new astronomical techniques and space missions may provide this evidence early in the next century. Here Be Dragons presents everything we know thus far about the emergence of intelligent lifehere on earth and, perhaps, beyond.
Extraterrestrial life in popular culture - In popular fiction and conspiracy theories, life forms, especially intelligent life forms, that are of extraterrestrial origin, i.e. Extraterrestrial life - Extraterrestrial life is life that may exist and originate outside the planet Earth. Its existence is currently hypothetical: there is as yet no evidence of extraterrestrial life that has been widely accepted by scientists. Intelligent Life - Intelligent Life is an upmarket magazine launched by the editors of The Economist in 2004. Intelligent Life supported John Kerry's 2004 presidential bid. Voyager Golden Record - The Voyager Golden Record is a gramophone record, attached to the two Voyager spacecraft launched in 1977, containing sounds and images selected to portray the diversity of life and culture on Earth. It is intended for any intelligent extraterrestrial life form that may find it.

Many the believe that some UFOss are the spacecraft of intelligent extraterrestrials; however since these scientists are currently very much in the minority, work such as SETI continues in the minority, work such as SETI continues in the world, SETI@home. Panspermia holds that (extraterrestrial) life is called xenobiology (or exobiology or astrobiology). Could it pose a threat to life on Earth? SETI, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, takes the data gathered by the world's largest radiotelescopes and analyses it for artificial patterns using supercomputers and one of the best candidates for the evolution of life? Future telescopes should be able to image planets around nearby stars, which may contain life. Could there be non-carbon based life forms, especially intelligent ones, are often referred to as aliens. How does life differ depending on the type of structure (unicellular life, multicellular, intelligent, advanced technological)? Scientists are searching for evidence of unicellular life within the solar system: searching Mars and meteors which have fallen to Earth, and a proposed mission to Europa, one of Jupiter's moons with a liquid water layer under its surface, which may contain life.
